Panthers Finish 12th

State Finishes in 12th Place at GSU/Pelican Preserve Invite

FT. MYERS, FLA (Oct. 17, 2006) -- The Georgia State women's golf team closed the second year of the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invitational in 12th-place with a final round score of 304 for a three-round total of 917.

Texas Tech took home the title finishing with a three-round total of 879. Miami's Jessica Steward took home the medalist title as the only player to finish under par at 7-under for the tournament.

For the Panthers, Joanna Klatten fired a final round 73 to put herself in a tie for 35th-place. Karin Dedering closed with a 76 and finished tied for 48th. Cathrine Madsen ended with a 77, which put her tied for 52nd-place along with Claire Starkie who finished with a 78. Pamela Torres closed with an 81 and tied for 60th-place.

"We had a lot more consistency during this tournament," said head coach Cathy Mant. "We are looking for improvement every time we go out. I think the second year of this tournament was outstanding. The staff at Pelican Preserve was very supportive and had the golf course in great shape for the tournament. Hopefully, this tournament will continue to grow in quality."

State will next travel to Kiawah Island, S.C. for the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate on Oct. 30-31.
