LAFAYETTE – The Georgia State Panthers fell 68-50 to Louisiana on Saturday afternoon at the Cajundome.
Georgia State (7-7, 1-2 Sun Belt) will return home to face in-state rival Georgia Southern at the GSU Convocation Center on Wednesday, January 8 at 5:30 p.m.
Mya Williams led the Panthers with nine points.
Crystal Henderson scored eight points and six assists, and
Patience Williams led GSU on the glass with seven rebounds off the bench. GSU struggled offensively, shooting 34.5 percent from the field and 18.8 percent from three while committing 24 turnovers, and were outrebounded 39-30.
The Panthers trailed 28-25 at halftime after a strong defensive second quarter which saw them hold Louisiana (6-6, 2-1 Sun Belt) to just seven points, including a 6:13 scoreless stretch, and held the Ragin' Cajuns to 1-of-10 shooting to close out the period before Louisiana opened the third with an 8-0 run and outscored GSU 27-9 in the quarter to pull away for good.
GSU rallied with a 9-2 run to open the fourth but would get no closer.
Erica Lafayette led Louisiana with 24 points.
