Mya Williams scored a career-high 24 points and
Kaleigh Addie scored 20 to lead Georgia State's barrage of 10 three-pointers in their 75-72 win over Coastal Carolina at the GSU Convocation Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Georgia State (9-10, 3-5 Sun Belt) shot 28-of-56 (50 percent) from the field and 10-of-24 (41.7 percent) from three to reach double-digits in made three-pointers for the second straight game and the sixth time this season. The Panthers previously equaled their single-game record with 13 made three-pointers in their double-overtime victory over in-state rival Georgia Southern on Saturday, January 18. The Panthers also outrebounded Coastal Carolina 35-26 and forced 14 turnovers which led to 21 points.
Williams made nine field goals with six three-pointers, both career-highs, to top her previous career-high of 21 points set in GSU's 78-72 win at Clemson in 2023.
Addie scored 11 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to help GSU secure the win and shot 6-of-13 from the field and 3-of-8 from three.
Mikyla Tolivert just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds with five assists, and
Crystal Henderson dished out a team-high nine assists.
GSU trailed 61-60 in the fourth when
Mya Williams and
Kaleigh Addie drained back-to-back threes to put the Panthers up 66-61. A pair of layups from Savannah Brooks shrank the Panther lead to one before Mahogany Mathews hauled in a long pass over the CCU defense from
Crystal Henderson for a breakaway layup with 3:04 left.
Kaleigh Addie then hit a layup with a foul to increase GSU's lead to 6 with 2:28 remaining.
Coastal Carolina (13-5, 4-4 Sun Belt) had a chance to force overtime when a three-pointer from Kristin Williams cut the Panther lead to three with 27 seconds left. The Chanticleers then drew a loose-ball foul with 19 seconds left to regain possession, setting up one final shot, but Savannah Brooks' contested three from the corner was off the mark, giving GSU the victory.
CCU led 29-18 with 8:25 left in the second when GSU settled in after a timeout and outscored the Chanticleers 21-13 over the remainder the period and 14-11 in the third quarter to tie the game at 53 heading into the fourth.
