SAN MARCOS – Three Panthers scored in double-figures as Georgia State outscored Texas State 22-6 in the fourth quarter to win 59-51 at Strahan Coliseum on Thursday night.
Mikyla Tolivert led GSU with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field with five rebounds and two three-pointers.
Crystal Henderson also shot 6-of-13 to score 13 points, and
Mya Williams added 10 points on four made field goals, including two straight three-pointers in the fourth.
Kaleigh Addie overcame foul trouble late to score seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter, and
Mahogany Matthews led GSU on the glass with eight rebounds.
Georgia State (7-6, 1-1 Sun Belt) forced 28 turnovers, including 17 steals which led to 30 points and 14 on the fast break, and held Texas State (7-5, 1-1 Sun Belt) to just 1-of-18 from three.
GSU trailed 45-37 entering the fourth when
Mya Williams opened the quarter with her two threes to pull the Panthers within two with 9:10 remaining. The Bobcats would increase lead to four before
Mikyla Tolivert and
Kaleigh Addie each hit a layup with 6:56 remaining and 4:46 left to tie the game up.
Texas State would retake the lead on a layup by Morgan Hill with before Addie drained a three-pointer with 3:51 left that sparked an 11-0 run to put GSU up for good.
Desti Terrell led the Bobcats with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Panthers will travel to Lafayette to face Louisiana on January 4 at 2 p.m. before returning home to face in-state rival Georgia Southern on January 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the GSU Convocation Center.
