Panthers Open Conference Play at Home Against Coastal Carolina

THE OPENING KICK: After going 3-3-1 against non-conference opponents, Georgia State opens conference play hosting Coastal Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.

SERIES VS. COASTAL CAROLINA: The Panthers are 5-5-3 on the series against Coastal Carolina after defeating the Chanticleers 1-0 on the road on Oct. 31, 2023.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: After nearly 40 years, head coach Brett Surrency became the winningest coach in Georgia State history with 144 wins.
> Former head coach Scottie O'Neill previously set the record for the most wins by a head coach in 1986, when the 1986 Sun Belt Coach of the Year posted a total of 143 wins to set the record.
> Surrency tied the record of 143 total wins in the Panthers' 3-2 win over USC Upstate (Sept. 13) before breaking it the following game (at Wofford, Sept. 17).
> The Panthers have won 11 matches in six of the past eight seasons under Head Coach Brett Surrency.

PANTHERS IN THE SUN BELT: The Panthers rank eighth in the Sun Belt heading into conference play, after going 3-3-1 in non-conference matchups to start the season.
> The Panthers lead the Sun Belt and rank 20th nationally in saves per game (5.0). The team's save percentage (0.795)ranks third in the conference and 32nd nationally.
> Georgia State also ranks in the top 10 in the conference in assists-per-game (0.71), points-per-game (3.290), total goals (9), and points (23). 

> Starting goalkeeper Josue Hangi leads the Sun Belt and ranks 15th in the nation for saves-per-game with 5.00. His 35 total saves leads the conference and ranks third in the country. The veteran goalie has recorded two shutouts on the season, the third-most of any other Sun Belt goalie this season. Hangi leads the conference and ranks 12th in the nation for minutes played (630:00).
>Hangi set a new career-high in saves with 12 at Lipscomb (Sept. 5).

> Junior Justin McLean, who has seen action in all but one match this season, leads the Panthers with 7 points. The junior midfielder also leads the Panthers in goals with three, which ranks seventh in the Sun Belt. His 2.67 shots per game also lead the Panthers and rank eighth in the conference.
>McLean set a new career-high two goals to secure the 2-0 win over Wofford (Sept. 17).
