Women's tennis standout Maria Paredes is the Center Parc Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week after leading Georgia State to a win 4-2 over rival Georgia Southern in the regular-season finale.

Playing No. 1 singles, Paredes won a second-set tiebreaker to defeat Ninon Martinache, 6-2, 7-6 (5), and clinch the match for the Panthers. Paredes handed Martinache her only Sun Belt Conference loss of the season.

A sophomore from Murcia, Spain, Paredes also played No. 2 doubles, but her match was unfinished after GSU secured the doubles point.

Georgia State won its final three regular-season matches entering this week's Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Rome (Ga.) Tennis Center. The Panthers, seeded ninth, open the tournament against eighth-seeded Texas State on Thursday at 10 a.m.
