Box Score 2 ORLANDO, FL-- Georgia State softball went 1-1 in day one of the UCF Classic on Friday afternoon.
Game One vs. Howard:
Georgia State controlled the game from the beginning, ultimately defeating Howard 5-3 in the Panthers season opener.
After a scoreless game through three innings, the Panthers took a 2-0 advantage over Howard after
Bella Morton hit a single to center field to score
Chloe Nadler and Mackenzie Walker. Nadler followed up in the top of the fifth with a second single to center to bring
Maya Montague home, taking a 3-0 lead through five innings.
The Bison scored two in the bottom of the fifth to decrease the Panthers' advantage to one, but the Panthers responded with a two-run inning in the sixth inning to put GSU on top 5-3.
The Panthers held the Bison through the final two innings to take the win in game one of the season.
Game Two vs. UConn:
Despite a back-and-forth game, the Panthers fell 4-3 in game two of the UCF Black and Gold Classic.
UConn took an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning and held the Panthers to a scoreless game through the second inning, but the Panthers bounced back in the third with three triples.
Payton Nicholson started the Panthers off with a triple to center. Mya Montague followed, nailing a triple down the right-field line to send Nicholson home and tie the game at two. With two outs in the fifth,
Chloe Nadler notched another triple for the Panthers to score a 3-2 advantage over the Huskies.
UConn scored three late in the seventh inning to take the win.
