Five Panthers Score in Double Digits in Georgia State's 85-74 Loss to Furman

ATLANTA, GA --Five Panthers put up double-digit points, but Georgia State fell to the Furman Paladins 85-74 at home Wednesday.

The Panthers (4-3) had five players score in double figures, led by Mikyla Tolivert, who had 19 points and two steals. Mya Williams tacked on 13 points and Kaleigh Addie chipped in as well with 12 points off of the bench.

The Georgia State offense made hay from beyond the arc, knocking down nine threes on 24 attempts. Crystal Henderson hit two treys for the Panthers in the contest.

Georgia State forced 18 Furman turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Wednesday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Patience Williams led the way individually with three steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 10-2, Georgia State went on a 5-0 run with 6:28 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Monna Julkunen, to narrow its deficit to 10-7. Furman answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Panthers down 24-18 entering the second quarter.

Georgia State then cut the Paladins lead to 28-24 before going on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three from Tolivert, to take a 31-28 lead. The Paladins then came roaring back to take a 47-39 lead heading into halftime.

Furman continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 58-49 advantage before Georgia State went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 58-54 with 2:24 to go in the third. The Panthers were unable to cut further into the deficit, but did not cede ground to Furman either and entered the fourth quarter trailing 64-60. Georgia State took advantage of four Furman turnovers in the quarter, scoring six points off of takeaways.

Furman kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 81-65 advantage before Georgia State went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 81-71 with 3:05 to go in the contest. Furman responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 85-74. Georgia State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 14 points.
