Late Steal from Addie Solidifies a Panthers Win

ATLANTA -- A late steal from Kaleigh Addie with two seconds on the clock solidified the 57-56 win for the Panthers on Tuesday afternoon.

"Great win and a tremendous job from our girls today," head coach Gene Hill said. "I don't think people realize how good of a team Purdue Fort Wayne is. For us to come out and hold that team to under 60 points is huge, considering they've been averaging over 80 points per-game this season."

The Georgia State women's basketball team fought back from a 44-40 deficit after the third quarter to knock off the Mastodons.

The Panthers (4-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Mikyla Tolivert, who had 17 points and four steals. Kaleigh Addie tacked on 16 points and four steals off of the bench and Mahogany Matthews added four points, nine rebounds and three blocks.

Georgia State's defense held Purdue Fort Wayne to only 32.3 percent shooting from the field, including 28.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Panthers also limited Lauren Ross to 4-of-15 shooting in the game.

How It Happened

Georgia State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 12-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Georgia State then cut the Mastodons lead to 18-17 before going on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a three from Tolivert, to take a 26-18 lead. The Mastodons cut into that lead, but the Panthers still enjoyed a 28-27 advantage heading into halftime. Georgia State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 21 points.

Georgia State then lost its advantage in the third quarter and trailed the Mastodons 44-40 entering the fourth. Georgia State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 12 points in the paint.

Georgia State came out of the third quarter break clicking on all cylinders, going on an 11-0 run, finished off by Mya Williams' three, to seize a 51-44 lead with 5:52 to go in the contest. The Mastodons narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 57-56 win.
