Carlson, Williams Named to 2023 Preseason All-Sun Belt Team

ATLANTA— Georgia State men's soccer senior Simon Carlson and sophomore Gavin Williams have been named to the 2023 All-Sun Belt Team, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Carlson enters the 2023 season having earned All-Sun Belt First-Team honors in 2022 after starting all 19 matches for the Panthers and accumulating 1900 total minutes for the year. The Kennesaw, Ga. native co-led the team and tied for sixth in the SBC with seven goals on the season, while tallying four assists for a total of 18 points.

Carlson was also named to the 2022 United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Second-Team, and earned 2022 CSC Academic All-America Soccer Second-Team honors.

Williams' first season competing for the Panthers saw the Cumming, Ga. native connect on a pair of game-winning goals in the team's regular-season opener facing North Florida, and again against Old Dominion in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinal. Williams saw action in 17 matches in 2022 with a total of eight starts and over 700 minutes accumulated.

GSU enters the 2023 campaign slotted at a tie for No. 6 in the Sun Belt Men's Soccer Pre-Season Poll. The team travels to Clinton, S.C. on Tuesday, Aug. 15 for an exhibition match facing Presbyterian, then rounds out exhibition play on Saturday, Aug. 19 hosting ACC foe Clemson at the GSU Soccer Complex before opening the regular-season slate on the road against Belmont.
