ATLANTA--Georgia State rising sophomore
Connor MacMillan qualified for the 123rd U.S. Amateur after tying for first place in the qualifying event at the Standard Club in Johns Creek.
MacMillan's trip to the U.S. Amateur, scheduled for Aug. 14-20, at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., will mark the 10th appearance for a Georgia State golf alumnus or current player in this prestigious event and the first time 2020, when twins Alex and Max Herrmann qualified.

MacMillan opened the 36-hole qualifier with a 66 on Monday, and then followed with a 1-under par 71 today to tie two other golfers at 7-under and earn one of the six qualifying spots.
After bogeying the 17th hole, he birdied 18 to secure his spot.
A native of Canton, Ga., who attended Woodstock High School, MacMillan has continued a productive summer that saw him finish third at last week's Georgia Amateur at Rivermont Golf Club in John's Creek.
He is coming off a strong freshman season for the Panthers in 2022-23, posting the team's second-best scoring average at 74.31 while playing in 11 events.
