After Two Big Wins, Merrill is Center Parc Student-Athlete of the Week

Deasia Merrill is the Center Parc Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week after averaging 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 67 percent from the field to lead Georgia State to a pair of victories, including a win over Sun Belt co-leader James Madison.

In the win over JMU, Merrill went 8-for-12 from the field and scored 17 points in just 22 minutes. She scored 15 points in the second half as GSU outscored the Dukes 42-30 en route to the 72-54 victory.

Merrill opened the week with career highs of 23 points (10-for-15FG) and 13 rebounds in the 64-56 victory over App State.

The junior post player helped the GSU defense hold App State and James Madison to a combined 32 percent from the field, including just 20 percent (14-for-70) in the two second halves.

For the season, Merrill is second in the Sun Belt and No. 44 in Division I in field goal percentage at .536. She also ranks in the Top 10 in the Sun Belt in scoring (8th with 14.0 ppg), rebounding (8th with 7.4 rpg) and blocked shots (5th with 1.1 per game).

Merrill and the Panthers hit the road this weekend, beginning with a Thursday game at Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
