STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Georgia State women's basketball team (1-1, SBC 0-0) came up short in an 88–62 setback to Mississippi State (2-0, SEC 0-0) on Friday afternoon inside Humphrey Coliseum.
Three Panthers scored in double figures, led by Crystal Henderson, who posted 19 points, five assists, and two steals. Morgan Robinson-Nwagwu added 11 points and two steals, while Ari Dyson contributed 10 points off the bench.
Defensively, Georgia State forced 15 Bulldog turnovers and converted them into 12 points on the offensive end. Grace Lanier led the effort with two steals for the Panthers.
How It Happened
Georgia State got off to a slow start, trailing 17-10 after the first quarter. The Panthers struggled to find their rhythm in the second period as Mississippi State pulled away to a 49–22 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs continued to extend their advantage after the break, going up 72-33 before Georgia State responded with a 10-0 run, highlighted by a Savannah Robinson-Holmes three-pointer, to cut the deficit to 72-43 with 30 seconds remaining in the third. Mississippi State answered with a late basket to take a 74-43 lead into the final frame. The Panthers connected on three triples in the quarter, accounting for nine of their 21 points.
Georgia State opened the fourth quarter with energy, stringing together a 5-0 spurt capped by a Crystal Henderson jumper to make it 74-48 with 8:35 to play. However, the Panthers were unable to close the gap further, falling 88-62. Georgia State continued to find success from beyond the arc, hitting three more from beyond the arc to account for nine of its 19 points in the final period.
