Georgia State beach volleyball standouts Angel Ferary and Bella Ferary are the Georgia State Student-Athletes of the Week after leading the Panthers to two impressive victories in the 2022 NCAA National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The pair finished competition with a 3-0 record, including victories at the fourth flight facing No. 7 Grand Canyon, No. 2 TCU and No. 4 LMU. The duo helped the Sandy Panthers knock off No. 7 Grand Canyon and No. 2 TCU as GSU advanced to the round of six for the first time in school history.
The pair opened tournament play with a victory, 21-15, 19-21, 15-5, over seventh-ranked GCU. The second round of NCAA Tournament action saw the Ferary's down No. 2 TCU, 11-21, 21-18, 16-14.
The sisters followed up the victories with a win in straight sets, 21-19, 21-16, against No. 4 LMU. With the victory at the No. 4 court, the pair accounted for a 37-2 final record for the spring that included 22 wins facing ranked opponents.
In the Panthers' loss to No. 3 UCLA, the pair went unfinished up a set and leading the Bruins by a count of 21-19, 16-16.
The Ferary duo now holds the highest winning percentage in a season for a pair in school history (.949%). With 37 wins each, the Ferary's finish the spring charting the most individual wins as well as most wins by a pair in GSU beach volleyball history.
The Ferary's ended the season with AVCA Top-Flight Award honors as well as All-Conference USA First-Team honors.
The Panthers' historic season saw the team win the first-ever Conference USA Beach Volleyball Championship title on April 30, earning GSU the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores. The Ferary sisters received All-Tournament Team honors following a 4-0 performance at the C-USA Championship in Huntsville.
GSU entered play at the NCAA Tournament and collected two victories for the first time in Georgia State athletics school history. The Panthers' upset victory facing No. 2 TCU also marks the largest upset in NCAA National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship history, and matches the highest-ranking win in GSU athletics history across all sports.
