Panthers Celebrate the Life of Bob Heck in This Weekend's Matchup

GEORGIA STATE – The Panthers will face Sun Belt Conference opponent UT- Arlington in a three -game weekend series starting Friday at 5 p.m.. 

They will celebrate the life of Bob Heck at Saturday's matchup hosting a ceremony post-game for Alumni, friends and family. Bob Heck left a lasting impact on the Panther Family, not only on the softball field but off the field as well. Heck was recognized as a pioneer of softball in the state of Georgia as his Panthers were the first NCAA-sanctioned fast-pitch program in the state. In 2005 he was honored with the Georgia State Sparks Award for his dedication to the program and university. The Panthers softball complex is named Bob Heck Softball Complex in recognition of his generosity in constructing our facility.

GEORGIA STATE NOTES

Georgia State's Junior infielder Bailee Richardson leads the Panthers with nine home runs and sits in second in the conference in RBIs with 27 on the season. 

Emily Brown leads the Panthers in triples, adding one against Troy and sits at number three in the conference. She is also in second in the conference in stolen bases with 17. The Panthers sit in second in the Sun Belt for stolen bases per game with a 2.19.

The Panthers have been solid on defense with a .956 Fielding percentage and added two double plays against Troy this past weekend, sitting at the number two spot in the conference with 11 double plays.

UT ARLINGTON AND GEORGIA STATE

Georgia State (13-19, 4-5 Sun Belt) is coming off a series loss but winning (4-0) the last game against Troy this past Sunday. No midweek game for the Panthers as inclement weather was the cause for a cancellation in Auburn.

UTA (15-15, 6-6 Sun Belt) is coming off a tough matchup, facing the no.19 Texas Longhorns last Wednesday night. The UT Arlington softball team fell to No. 19 Texas in a 14-4 run-rule loss.

SERIES HISTORY

The Panthers last faced UTA April 2021 in Arlington, Texas, UTA took the series, 2-1. The overall series is tied at 12-12 between the two teams, the Panthers look to charge ahead this weekend. 

Following the game on Sunday, Georgia State will host Alabama State Tuesday, April 12 at the Bob Heck Softball Complex. The Matchup is set for 5 p.m. ET.
