Softball's Hess and Brown Named Preseason All-Sun Belt

ATLANTA – With the 2022 season just over a week away, Georgia State's Daisy Hess and Emily Brown were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team as announced by the league office on Thursday.

Hess, Georgia State's starting shortstop, started all 46 games last year and batted .331 as a sophomore. She led the team with 32 runs, 10 home runs, 11 doubles, 41 RBI, a .641 slugging percentage, and 93 total bases. The junior tied for second on the team with seven stolen bases and two triples while recording 15 multi-hit games on the season. She also led the team with five home runs, 11 walks and 13 RBI in conference play.

Hess drove in a career-high four runners at North Carolina A&T on Feb. 20, and against Chattanooga on March 13. She also scored the winning run in GSU's 4-1 victory over Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Brown was named one of three outfielders to the team after leading Georgia State in hitting with a .335 batting average after starting all 46 games last season. As a sophomore, Brown went a perfect 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts.

She stepped up in Sun Belt Conference play and batted .365 with a team-high 27 hits and three triples. Brown also led the team with 18 multi-hit games, including seven 3-hit games in her sophomore year.

Brown started the season strong going a combined 7-for-12 in her first three games. She hit her first career home run with a three-run blast Feb. 20, against North Carolina A&T, and hit another homer against Kennesaw State on March 3. Brown recorded a hit in 10 of her final 11 games on the season, including multiple hits in 8 of her final 11 games. She went a combined 11-for-23 from May 6-12 and ended the season on a seven-game hitting streak.

Georgia State is scheduled to open the season Feb. 11, traveling to the Stetson Lead Off Classic in DeLand, Fla. The Panthers will open the year with games against Indiana State and Stetson that Friday.
