Softball Drops Doubleheader at Stetson Lead Off Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DELAND, Fla. – The Georgia State softball team dropped a pair of games to Indiana State and Delaware on Saturday at the Stetson Lead Off Classic at Patricia Wilson Field.

In the morning game, the Panthers fell to Indiana State 2-0 in eight innings after a pitchers' duel between Emily Buck and Lexi Benko.

In the second game, Delaware kept Georgia State's bats cooled off with a 4-1 victory for the Blue Hens.

Georgia State dropped to 1-3 on the season but will have a chance to pick up one more win in Florida on Sunday before returning to Atlanta.

Georgia State will close out the Stetson Lead Off Classic facing the host Hatters at noon on Sunday. The game is scheduled to air live on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available.

Game 1: Indiana State 2, Georgia State 0 (8)
Emily Buck pitched eight strong innings for the Panthers, but unfortunately Georgia State could not generate any runs in a 2-0 loss to Indiana State in eight innings on Saturday morning.

Buck allowed just five hits while striking out four and didn't allow an earned run, but Indiana State's Lexi Benko pitched equally well allowing just two hits and striking out six.

Bailee Richardson and Jaycee Goodwin managed the two hits for the Panthers who were shutout for the first time this year.

Kennedy Shade got the eighth inning rally going for the Sycamores and scored the first run of the game off the bat of Olivia Patton. A batter later, Bella Peterson drove in Patton to give Indiana State a 2-0 lead which proved to be enough for the win.

Game 2: Delaware 4, Georgia State 1
Freshman Emily Hodnett gave up just five hits over six innings, but Georgia State fell to Delaware 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Carolyn Deady went 2-for-3 at the plate, but the Panthers managed just one other hit again the Blue Hens.

Brooke Glanden led Delaware (3-0) going 2-for-3 with two runs score and three runs batted in.

After picking up her first collegiate win on Friday, Hodnett earned her first collegiate loss after allowing all four runs while striking out two.

Kailey Christian improved to 1-0 for Delaware while allowing just one hit over 4.0 innings. Graceyn Frost earned the save after pitching 3.0 innings and giving up just two hits.

Georgia State had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh as two runners reached base with just one out, but unfortunately could not get either runner across the plate.

Following this weekend's play, Georgia State will return to action on Wednesday traveling to Cullowhee, N.C., for a doubleheader with Western Carolina at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
