Records Broken in Win at Southern Miss

Georgia State controlled all three phases in a dominating 42-14 win at Southern Miss as the Panthers won for the fourth time in the last five games and snapped the Golden Eagles' three-game winning streak.

OFFENSE

The Panthers scored a season-high 42 points against a Southern Miss team that had not allowed more than 30 points in its first eight games. Georgia State's 521 yards of total offense are also the high against USM this season.

Georgia State rushed for 388 yards, the third-highest total in school history (414 vs. ULM, 2019; 390 vs. Troy, 2019).

Georgia State now ranks No. 5 in FBS in rushing offense with 248.1 yards per game.

Over the last five games, the Panthers have averaged 292 rushing yards per game.

GSU has rushed for 200-plus yards in 15 of the last 17 games.

DEFENSE

The Georgia State defense set the school record by holding Southern Miss to just 202 yards of total offense (previous record: 203 vs. Georgia Southern, 2015).

The Panthers allowed just 33 yards rushing, the fourth-lowest figure in program history.

Over the last two games, the Georgia State defense has allowed just 485 yards of offense, including only 59 yards rushing:
Old Dominion - 283 total offense, 26 rushing
Southern Miss - 202 total offense, 33 rushing

With 20 turnovers forced, Georgia State ranks No. 8 in FBS. The school record is 22 in 2015.

The Panthers tied the school record with seven sacks.

INDIVIDUAL MILESTONES

In his first start, Marcus Carroll rushed for a career-high 163 yards and tied the GSU record with three rushing touchdowns. Carroll averaged 6.8 yards per carry to produce the fourth-best single-game rushing total in GSU history.

Darren Grainger rushed for a career-high 143 yards on 13 carries for his second straight 100-yard game. Over the last three contests, he has gained 339 yards, and he is now the team's leading rusher with 643 yards on the season.

Grainger raised his career total at GSU to 1,303 yards as he passed Dan Ellington to become Georgia State's career leader among quarterbacks and No. 7 overall on the rushing list.

Tucker Gregg scored his 25th career touchdown. He is just one behind Albert Wilson's school record of 26 touchdowns scored.

With three sacks in the last two games, Thomas Gore now has 9.5 in his career to move into the Top 5 in the GSU record book.

Jeffery Clark also has three sacks over the last two games.

Antavious Lane's first interception of the season is the 10th of his career, one behind Quavian White's school record of 11.
