Veneziale Named Student-Athlete of the Week

Georgia State linebacker Jordan Veneziale is the Center Parc Credit Union Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week after leading the Panthers' to a 31-14 victory at Army.

The senior from Dallas, Ga., had a career-high 13 tackles, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups to lead the GSU defense.

Veneziale's two pass breakups helped the GSU defense set school records by holding Army to 11 yards passing on just one completion.

Both fumble recoveries came in the first half at the GSU 39-yard line and the GSU 21-yard line to help the Panthers shut out Army before the intermission.

Veneziale and the Georgia State defense came up with two huge fourth down stops with the Panthers holding a 17-14 lead in the fourth quarter. First, the Panthers stopped Army on fourth-and-goal from inside the 1-yard line as the entire defense stopped Army's 260-pound fullback up the middle with nine minutes left. On Army's next possession, the Panthers stopped a fake punt attempt on fourth down, setting up Georgia State's game-clinching touchdown three plays later.

Veneziale and the Panthers return home to host Georgia Southern Saturday at 2 p.m. at Center Parc Stadium.
