ATLANTA – First-year head softball coach Angie Nicholson announced Georgia State's 2022 softball schedule Tuesday morning. The 2022 slate features 22 home contests including exciting non-conference home games against Georgia Tech, Auburn, Penn State, and Kennesaw State, and road games at Georgia and Florida.
Nicholson will make her debut as the Panthers' head coach at the Stetson Lead Off Classic in DeLand, Fla. from Feb. 11-13, where the Panthers will face Indiana State, Stetson, and Delaware.
GSU will travel to Western Carolina for a doubleheader on Feb. 16 and return to Georgia to face Georgia Tech on Feb. 23. The I-75 Challenge will begin at Kennesaw State on Feb. 25 with games against the Owls and East Tennessee State, before making their home-debut with a doubleheader against Jacksonville State on Feb. 26 and closing out the event hosting and Penn State on Feb. 27.
Following the I-75 Challenge, the Panthers will host Auburn on March 2, before traveling to Gainesville, Fla., for the Bubly Invitational hosted by Florida from March 4-6 where the Panthers will face Tennessee State, Florida, and Coastal Carolina.
After facing Georgia on the road March 9, GSU will open Sun Belt Conference play on the road at Louisiana on March 11. As part of league play, the Panthers will host Appalachian State, South Alabama, UT Arlington and ULM.
Former legendary head coach Bob Heck, who passed away in June, will be honored on April 9. More details on that event will be announced shortly.
Other events planned for the spring are a Breast Cancer Awareness game on March 19, Lupus Awareness Game on April 12, and a Military Appreciation Game on May 1.
The Panthers will also play several exciting midweek contests during Sun Belt Conference play. Georgia State hosts Georgia Tech on April 20, Kennesaw State on April 27, and will visit Auburn on April 6.
Georgia State will close out the regular season at rival Georgia Southern before heading to Mobile, Ala., for the Sun Belt Conference Championship scheduled May 10-14.
