Former Panther Emily Burke Signs Pro Contract

ATLANTA – After helping lead the Georgia State women's soccer team to a remarkable season on the pitch, recent graduate Emily Burke has signed a contract to play professionally for Columbus Rapids FC.

This past season Burke, a captain of the team, played in 18 matches and was one of 14 Panthers to score a goal as a part of Georgia State's balanced scoring attack.

As a junior, Burke recorded two assists while starting 12 games and appearing in all 15 of a COVID-19 shortened season. She anchored the GSU midfield while helping lead the Panthers to a historic 10-3-2 season, outscoring opponents 25-16.

"We are excited to see Emily continue her soccer career on the professional level," head coach Ed Joyce said. "In her four years at Georgia State, Emily truly represented what it means to be a student-athlete on and off the field and I have no doubt she will continue to be successful at the next level."

Along with her success on the field, Burke was a four-time President's List honoree and three-time Dean's List honoree for her work in the classroom.

She becomes the third former Panther to sign a professional contract already this year. Brooke Shank signed with Valadares Gaia of the Portuguese First Division, while Callie O'Connor signed with the Rome (Ga.) Gladiators of the National Indoor Soccer League earlier this month.

Georgia State wrapped up the 2021 season in November going 9-4-7, including a 3-1-6 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. The Panthers finished in third place in the conference and advance to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championship.
