ATLANTA - Head coach Beth Van Fleet officially announced the additions of Yasmin Kuck, Chloee Kleespies, Tyler Lindgren and Kayla Whetstone to the Georgia State beach volleyball roster Tuesday evening.
Kuck, Kleespies, Lindgren and Whetstone all come to GSU as graduate transfers after competing at other institutions previously.
Kuck, a native of Montpellier, France, arrives from Stetson where she played three seasons as a member of the beach volleyball team. During her time at Stetson, she was tabbed to the ASUN All-Freshman team in 2019, before being named ASUN First Team All-Conference in 2021. Before arriving at Stetson, Kuck played two seasons of indoor volleyball at Daytona State where she collected over 250 kills and 200 digs during her sophomore season.
"Yasmin brings wisdom, experience and discipline to this team," said Van Fleet. "She is a consistent, high level competitor – and we are thrilled to have her on our side of the net. She is earning an MBA and will be balancing a rigorous academic schedule along with training."
Kleespies comes to GSU from Toledo where she played four seasons of indoor volleyball. The Lincoln University, Pa., native ended her career at Toledo with 2,887 attack attempts which is the ninth-most ever by a Rocket. As a junior in 2019, Kleespies was tabbed MAC West Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 16) after averaging 4.56 kills/set and hitting .346 during the Wright State Invitational.
"Chloee is a hard-working, hungry-to-learn human," said Van Fleet. "She brings determination and a light-hearted demeanor to each team function. She is quickly transitioning from her indoor skill set to a beach skill set – largely due to the time she spent training with her sister this summer. We look forward to watching her growth this semester."
Lindgren, a product of Fort Collins, Colo., played three seasons at Temple where she led the Owls in assists each season. During her time at Temple, she accumulated numerous awards such as Under Armour/OwlSports.com Athlete of the Month (September 2019), 2019 Cherry & White Challenge MVP and 2019 American Classic All-Tournament Team.
"Growing up in Colorado, Tyler had the opportunity to train in the sand as a high school athlete," said Van Fleet. "Her IQ, ball control, vision and drive to learn will serve her well as she re-adjusts to the beach game following an outstanding career at Temple. Academically, she is preparing for a career as a PA and will be logging in hours in the medical field as well as the sand."
Whetstone arrives in Atlanta from Florida Gulf Coast where she played four seasons for the Eagles. The Arlington, Texas native finished her career as arguably the most decorated FGCU beach volleyball player of all time. She finished her career as the program's all-time wins leader (67), while also checking in second in winning percentage (.736). As a senior, she was named ASUN Scholar Athlete of the Year while also being tabbed a unanimous First Team All-ASUN selection.
"Kayla brings experience, ball control and leadership to this team," said Van Fleet. "Her focus and perseverance are keys to her success in the sand. We are excited to work and learn with her this year. Kayla is completing a challenging and accelerated MBA in finance."
Each player will look to have an immediate impact on the team during the 2022 campaign. Last season, Georgia State finished with a 23-13 record which culminated in an appearance in the CCSA Championship match.
