Cabrero, Holloway, Ryff Named Preseason All-Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS -- Three Panthers were named Preseason All-Sun Belt and Georgia State was picked third in the preseason poll as announced by the Sun Belt Conference on Monday.

Jimena Cabrero, Kamree Holloway and Jolie Ryff were each named to the preseason squad after all three were All-Sun Belt honorees following the 2020 season. The three preseason honors are the most for GSU since the program joined the Sun Belt in 2013 and tied for the most with Arkansas State of any program in the league.

The Panthers went 10-3-2 last year and earned the No. 2 seed from the East Division at the Sun Belt Championship. It was the third winningest season in program history and highest postseason seeding since 1999. 

Cabrero scored two goals with two assists last season while leading the team in shot and shots on goal. She scored the game-winner in the 107th minute at South Alabama on Oct. 4 to lead GSU to its first win in Mobile since 2003. This is Cabrero's second Preseason All-Sun Belt nod.

Holloway earned Second Team All-Sun Belt honors last season after anchoring the GSU defense which allowed the second fewest goals in the Sun Belt. Holloway and the Panthers recorded five shutouts on the season. She played the most minutes on the team while starting all 15 games.

Ryff was named Second Team All-Sun Belt after scoring three goals, second most on the team, in 2020. Her seven points also ranked second. Ryff scored the game-winner at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 11 and assisted the game-winning goal at Troy on Oct. 23.

The Panthers open up the season Thursday with an exhibition against Stetson at the newly renovated facility at 188 MLK. Admission is free to the public.
