A Look Back

The 2020-21 academic year was anything but normal at Georgia State or anywhere else in the world for that matter. However, throughout these most unique times, our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans still came together to help make the #PantherFamily even stronger.

As we close out the academic year, we take a look back at the accomplishments of the last 12 months and start to look ahead to what we are are most excited for in 2021-22, including full stadiums, the opening of a new soccer complex, watching the construction of our new convocation center, and winning conference championships.

What did we accomplish over the last 12 months? Here are just a few of the highlights:
  • 137 team sport victories
  • Five Player of the Year Honorees
  • 38 All-Conference Honorees
  • A LendingTree Bowl victory for football over Western Kentucky which gives the Panthers three bowl appearances in the last four years.
  • Men's Basketball advancing to a third-straight Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship Game.
  • Baseball knocking off four ranked opponents, including College World Series finalist Vanderbilt.
  • Men's Soccer playing in a sixth-straight Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship Game.
  • Women's Soccer finishing the year with an impressive 10-3-2 record including a stretch of eight-straight matches without a loss to record its winningest season since 1998.
  • Men's Basketball opening the regular season with a 123-120 quadruple overtime, two-day win over crosstown foe Georgia Tech.
  • Football scoring a 30-24 win over 'That Team Down South' to end the regular season.
  • Men's Golf winning the Wofford Invitational – the first win for head coach Chad Wilson.
  • Men's Tennis advancing to another Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship match after an impressive 10-match winning streak during the regular season.
  • Women's Basketball finishing the regular season with three-straight wins to finish in second place in the Sun Belt Conference East Division standings.
  • Beach Volleyball with another 20-plus win season and advancing to the CCSA Tournament Championship Match.
  • Jaeda Hunt wins the long jump at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
  • Women's golfer freshman Mahina Leveau earning a tie for second at the Georgia State Invitational with one of the five lowest three-round scores in school history.
  • Court Volleyball winning six of its final seven regular season matches to entering the conference championship as one of the hottest teams in the league.
  • Softball eliminates Georgia Southern in the first round of the Sun Belt Championship for its ninth win in the conference tournament since 2014.
  • A 13th-straight year with our student-athletes averaging at least a 3.0 GPA
  • Welcoming Center Parc Credit Union to the #PantherFamily
As we look ahead to 2021-22, we hope to see our fans back at the stadium or the ballpark as we look to #SoundTheHorn and #LightItBlue and THANK YOU to everyone who made the 2020-21 season a success!
