ATLANTA- Georgia State beach volleyball continues to set the standard for athletic and academic success. During the spring semester the Panthers finished with a 3.8 cumulative GPA, the second highest among women's sports at GSU. While competing nearly each weekend of the semester, 14 players earned individual academic honors.
The squad had five representatives on the President's List, reserved for students scoring over a 4.00. Seniors, Kaylee McClure and Bekah Brodbeck, and fifth-year, Maddie Gordon, capped off their undergraduate careers with the top honor. Meanwhile, Olivia Stasevich earned a spot on the list while completing her first year in the communication sciences and disorders graduate program. Additionally, junior Becky Tresham was named to the list for the sixth consecutive semester.
The team added seven athletes to the Dean's List, reserved for students who score above a 3.50 GPA. Fifth-year Kate Novack hit the 3.5 mark for the fifth time during her academic career. Additionally a trio of juniors, Maddy Delmonte, Kelly Dorn, and Bailey Hatchett, earned a spot on the list. Dorn and Delmonte were named to the CCSA All-Academic Team during the season for their performance in the classroom and on the court. Lastly, each of the team's rookies, Peyton Crenwelge, Angel Ferary, and Bella Ferary, earned a spot on the list.
Sophomore Elise Saga and senior Mattie Johnson were named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll, reserved for student-athletes that finish the semester with a 3.00 or higher GPA.
"This team showed up and worked hard this semester! We performed in training, competition and our (virtual) classrooms - all while learning to respect and protect the health of ourselves and others. None of it was easy," said head coach Beth Van Fleet. "Instead of making excuses, these young women chose to make progress. They leaned on each other, helped each other study, held one another accountable and the outcome was a 3.8 Team GPA and a runner-up title in the CCSA conference. I am incredibly proud of the commitment to academics that this team adopts year in and year out."
