ATLANTA– Looking to win a second title in four chances and advance to a fifth NCAA Regional in the last seven events, the Georgia State men's golf team will open the Sun Belt Championship on Sunday at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark.
The 12-team field will play 54 holes of stroke play on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. The top four teams will then qualify for match play with No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 scheduled for Wednesday morning. The winners will advance to the championship match on Wednesday afternoon.
Since 1998, Georgia State has finished in the top three in the conference tournament all but five times with eight titles and eight second-place finishes.
Since adding the match play format five years ago, the Panthers have advanced twice compiling a 3-1 record and a 13.5-6.5 individual match record during that stretch.
This will mark the third appearance in a Sun Belt Conference Championship for senior Josh Edgar who leads the team with a 72.39 scoring average. It will be the second conference tournament for fellow senior Egill Gunnarsson and first for Ashton Poole as the trio looks to lead the Panthers back to NCAA Regional play.
