Mooney Gets the Win, Drives in Five to Lead GSU Past UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sophie Mooney led GSU to a win with both her arm and her bat Sunday at North Florida as the Panthers beat the Ospreys 13-7.

Mooney earned her third win of the season in the circle after holding UNF to two earned runs over 4.0 innings. She also provided herself with some run support, going 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI.

North Florida capitalized on an error to push two runs across in the bottom of the first. Georgia State responded with a five-run third inning capped by a three-run homer by Mooney.

The Panthers added three more in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the seventh to hold off the Ospreys as Elle Doolittle earned her second save of the season. Doolittle pitched the final three innings, allowing one earned on four hits.

Five Panthers collected more than one hit in the game, including Daisy Hess and Bailee Richardson who joined Mooney with three hits a piece. Hess and Richardson each drove in a pair of runs as well. Gabby Benson also picked up two RBI in the contest.

Hess increased her season RBI total to a team-leading 20. It's the most RBI by a Panther through the first 17 games since Callie Alford drove in 27 runs to start the 2015 season.

Georgia State improves to 10-7 on the year after winning three of five this weekend at the JU-UNF Spring Break Challenge. GSU will travel to Athens Wednesday to face ranked Georgia.
