Jalen Thomas Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

ATLANTA – After scoring a career-high in points in three-straight games and leading the Panthers to victories in each, Georgia State men's basketball sophomore Jalen Thomas was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Wednesday.

The three-straight wins moved the Panthers into second place in the Sun Belt Conference East Division standings heading into this week's crucial series with first place South Alabama on Friday and Saturday.

Thomas averaged 17.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 68.8 percent (22-of-32) from the floor.

Thomas opened the week scoring 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while pulling down four rebounds in 30 minutes of action in an 80-66 win over Troy.

On Saturday, he eclipsed that career high by one scoring 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while knocking down all four of his free throw attempts. He added five rebounds and a steal in 33 minutes.

On Tuesday, he continued his hot play scoring a career-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while pulling down eight rebounds as the Panthers won for the fourth-straight time, topping Appalachian State 85-71.

For the season Thomas is averaging 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while shooting 59.4 percent from the floor.

Thomas becomes the third Panther to be honored by the league office this year. Justin Roberts earned recognition in November following the Panthers win over Georgia Tech, while Corey Allen was honored following the Panthers win over the College of Charleston.

Thomas and the Panthers will return to action on Friday night facing South Alabama in Mobile at 9 p.m., live on ESPN2.
