Panthers Fall Short in SBC-MAC Challenge

YPSILANTI, Mich. --The Georgia State men's basketball team got a 17-point showing from the bench, but fell 71-49 to the Eastern Michigan Eagles on the road Monday.

Jelani Hamilton led the Panthers (0-1) with 13 points. Anhtony Enoh also tacked on five points, eight rebounds and three steals off of the bench and Joah Chappelle chipped in as well with six points and seven rebounds.

Christian Beam pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace the Georgia State offense which grabbed 13 boards and turned them into nine second chance points.

Georgia State forced 13 Eastern Michigan turnovers. The Panthers turned those takeaways into six points on the other end of the floor. Enoh's three steals led the way for Georgia State.

How It Happened

After falling behind 11-9, Georgia State went on a 5-0 run with 12:25 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Ayouba Berthe, to take a 14-11 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 32-23.

Eastern Michigan kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 55-40 advantage before Georgia State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Isaiah Sherrard's three, to shrink the deficit to 55-47 with 6:39 to go in the contest. Eastern Michigan responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 71-49. Georgia State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting four shots from deep to score 12 of its 26 points.
