Panthers Face Richmond Looking for 3-0 Start Tuesday

ATLANTA-Looking for its first 3-0 start since the 2000-01 season, the Georgia State men's basketball team will take to the road for the first time this year facing Richmond on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., in the Robins Center.

Georgia State (2-0) is coming off back-to-back impressive wins and will now start a stretch of four-straight games away from home at Richmond (1-1). It will mark the first time the Panthers and Spiders meet and the first time for GSU to be playing a member of the A-10 since the 2018-19 season.

The Panthers are looking for their first 3-0 start since beginning the 2000-01 season 7-0, a season that didn't come to an end until the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

All-Sun Belt Preseason First Team member Corey Allen is among the early season national leaders in scoring at 22.5 points per game while shooting better than 53.0 percent from both the floor and 3-point range.

All-Sun Belt Preseason Second Team member Kane Williams enters the game with 1,244 career points and is just 10 points shy of Phillip Luckydo for eighth on GSU's all-time list. He is also just two made free throws from 400 which would make him just the second player in school history to accomplish that feat.

Georgia State enters the game No. 2 in the NCAA in turnover margin at +14.5, 12th in scoring defense at 50.5, and 44th in scoring offense averaging 90.0 points per game.

• The Panthers have 14 all-time wins over current members of the A-10, most recently a win three years ago over St. Bonaventure in the Cayman Islands Classic.
• Georgia State has started 2-0 for the second-straight season and will be looking to start 3-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season that started 7-0 and led to a 29-5 finish and 2nd Round of the NCAA Tournament.
• GSU is looking to win its first road game of the year for the first time since the 2017-18 season (at Rice).
• The Panthers tied a school-record with 21 steals in the win over Brewton-Parker on opening night. Justin Roberts set a career-high with six steals, while Nelson Phillips added five.
• GSU earned the top spot in the annual Sun Belt Conference Preseason Poll as selected by the coaches.
• Seniors Corey Allen (1st Team), Kane Williams (Second Team) and Eliel Nsoseme (Second Team) were all selected to the All-Sun Belt Preseason Teams before the start of the season. Allen (Second Team) and Nsoseme (Third Team) earned postseason All-Sun Belt honors last spring.
• Kane Williams broke Terrence Brandon's school record of 531 career free throw attempts last year and now has 549. He is second all-time with 398 made free throws, trailing only R.J. Hunter's school record of 448.
• Williams moved into ninth on GSU's all-time scoring list with 1,244 career points on Friday. He is currently 10 points behind Phillip Luckydo for eight and is 575 points behind R.J. Hunter's school record of 1,819.

• Georgia State has won 55-straight games dating back to 1999 when scoring 90 or more points.
• Georgia State is under the leadership of third-year head coach Rob Lanier. His .648 winning percentage (35-19 record) is the best of any GSU head coach in their first two years leading the program.
• Since returning to the Sun Belt in 2013-14, Georgia State has finished in the top two of the final regular season conference standings six times in eight seasons.
• During that same time, GSU has won more games (171) than any other NCAA Division I team in Georgia.

Following the game on Tuesday, Georgia State will travel to the Legends Classic at High Point for a pair of games this Saturday and Sunday. The Panthers will open the event facing former CAA foe William & Mary on Saturday at 5 p.m., followed by a contest against either host High Point or Howard on Sunday.
