ATLANTA – Georgia State senior
George Proctor and junior
Matthew Fearnley swept the Sun Belt Conference weekly honors as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. It marked the second-straight week that the Panthers have swept both league honors.
Proctor led the Georgia State backline to a 3-1 win over South Carolina last Thursday night, snapping a 42-year/12-match losing streak to the Gamecocks.
With Proctor's help, South Carolina mustered just 11 shots in the match, only six of which were on goal, as the Panthers improved to 2-0 with the win.
Proctor is a 2018 All-Sun Belt Second Team honoree and last earned Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 18, 2018.
Fearnley scored the first goal in the win over South Carolina and it nearly proved to be the game winner when all was said and done.
Fearnley's shot into the lower left corner of the goal gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the 32
nd minute of the match. It was the ninth goal of his career. Georgia State would score again just 53 seconds later and never relinquish the lead. It marks the first time Fearnley has earned Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The junior finished with a team-high three shots on goal as the Panthers defeated USC for the first time since 1978.
Georgia State will return to the pitch tonight facing UAB at 6 p.m. at Center Parc Stadium.
