Where Are They Now? Catching up with Ivie Drake

ATLANTA -- As part of a series highlighting our alumni, this week we caught up with Ivie Drake, a former Georgia State softball player.

Drake, a native of Carlton, Ga., played for GSU from 2015-18. She finished her illustrious career as the GSU all-time leader in batting average (.409), hits (285), home runs (65), RBI (215), runs scored (214), and walks (177). Drake was named Sun Belt all-conference all four years including three years on the first team. She was a two-time NFCA All-American.

After graduation, Drake returned to her hometown to be a teacher and softball coach. She currently teaches fourth grade at the same school she attended growing up. After school Drake serves as the head JV coach for the Madison County softball team and is an assistant on the varsity squad.

"Some of the things I learned while at Georgia State definitely help me in my coaching," Drake said. "One lesson I always try to teach my team is to not take anything for granted. I understand that a lot better now on this side of things. I tell them how important the little things are, like situational hitting and bunting."

Drake says her favorite part of playing at GSU was memories created with her teammates.

"What I remember most from my time at Georgia State was all the little moments before or after games with my teammates," Drake said. "The times where we were ourselves and having fun and creating inside jokes, those moments stick with me the most. Traveling to new places and experiencing those trips with my teammates is something I wouldn't have ever gotten to do without softball."
