Foursome Earns GCAA Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

ATLANTA – Georgia State men's golfers Josh Edgar, Egill Gunnarsson, David Li, and Ashton Poole have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday. Edgar and Gunnarsson earned the honor for a second-straight year while Li and Poole garnered the award for the first time. The foursome was among more than 1,000 student-athletes to earn the award at all levels of collegiate golf.

Edgar earned President's List honors during the fall and Dean's List honors in the spring semester this past season. He competed in all six events before the season was cut short, compiling a 72.81 scoring average, the second-lowest on the team and 19th-lowest single season scoring average in school history. Edgar earned a pair of top 15 finishes at the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills and the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner.

Gunnarsson also earned President's List honors during the fall, before garnering Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition in the spring. In six events he compiled a 73.38 scoring average in 16 rounds of competition, including seven rounds of par or better which was second-best on the team. Gunnarsson shot a final round 67 to open the season at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate.

Li earned the honor in his first year of eligibility. He has garnered President's List honors in three-straight semesters and compiled a 74.69 scoring average this season while competing in all six tournaments. He tied for 37th at the season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate shooting a final round 67.

Poole, competing as a graduate student after transferring to Georgia State from Virginia, earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition in both semesters. He compiled a 72.13 scoring average in 16 rounds of competition, the eighth-lowest single-season scoring average in school history. He led the team with eight rounds of par or better including six rounds in the 60's. He opened his Georgia State career with five-straight rounds below 70, tying for 21st at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate in the season opener.

"I'm extremely proud of this group for their success on the course and in the classroom," head coach Chad Wilson said. "All four of these young men show what it truly means to be a successful student-athlete and represent Georgia State in a positive manner every day."

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

A total of 11 Panthers have earned All-America Scholar honors in the last three years, including a record five two years go.
Former Panthers Nathan Mallonee, JJ Grey, Tyler Gruca, Alan Fowler, Derek Oakey, Kasper Jorgenson, Max Herrmann, Alex Herrmann, and D.J. Fiese each earned the award twice during their careers, while Nick Budd, Nathan Williams, Tom Sherreard, and Severin Soller earned the award once.
