Daniela Ramirez Named Assistant Coach of Women's Tennis Team

ATLANTA- Georgia State women's tennis head coach Alex Leatu has announced the addition of Daniela Ramirez to the Panthers' coaching staff. Ramirez spent the 2019-2020 season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Panthers after finishing her collegiate tennis career at GSU.

"Daniela will be a great addition to our program as an assistant coach," said Leatu. "Her dedication to the program as a player will make her transition into this coaching position extremely smooth. Her commitment to Georgia State has only grown in the past year as our volunteer assistant coach. I am thrilled to have her continue her professional journey at her alma mater."

During her time as the volunteer coach, the Venezuela native helped develop the team's five freshmen. With some guidance she was able to help the young players understand the importance of being on a team and having an open-mind. Although the season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she saw remarkable strides in their playing and mentality. Additionally, she gained experience by coaching at the Universal Tennis Academy in the Spring of 2020.

"Having the opportunity to coach is already a privilege, but coaching at the institution that has given me everything is something I never imagined," said Ramirez. "This opportunity is very special to me. Atlanta has been my home for the past four years. I want to thank Alex and athletics for making this possible, for believing in me one more time. Vamos Panteras!"

Ramirez started her playing career at Georgia State at the beginning of 2016. As a Panther, she helped lead the team to two Sun Belt Conference titles. Over her career she accumulated 50 victories in Spring singles action. She recorded several quality victories over ranked opposition in No. 29 South Carolina, No. 32 Columbia, and No. 43 South Alabama. She capped off her career with All-Sun Belt First Team honors in 2019 while serving as team captain.

Ramirez earned her degree in sport administration last December. She is currently pursuing her MBA with a concentration in organizational management.

Georgia State women's tennis finished the shortened 2020 season with a 5-8 record. The squad ended on a three-game winning streak. The season concluded prior to the beginning of conference action.
