No Spring Game, No Problem

Ask any one of our coaches and they will tell you the energy that the Panther Band brings is second to none. They love having them be a part of athletics events.  Whether it is pep rallies or individual sporting events (especially #StateNotSouthern), the energy is always there. Chester Phillips is in his 11th year at Georgia State and has been bringing that energy since day one. He has put together an incredible staff that brings his visions to life, and one of those important visionaries is Devin Reid.  Collectively they lay out an important game plan starting in August and it goes through May's Commencement Ceremonies, and then they regroup and reload in the summer for more of the same.

Chester contacted the Athletics Department the week of March 30 and said, "I was bummed about a lot of things these days, but this Friday was supposed to be our Spring Game, and I'm putting together a virtual fight song for our university community to continue to fight." Phillips was interested in bringing "The Sound of Downtown" to everyone's town. "What better way to lift up our university community than to have the band send individual videos of themselves playing, and I could piece them together." Like many telecommuters these days, Chester had to squeeze this 10-plus hour finished product in between homeschooling, teaching his workload online, and staying caught up and planning for the unknown--something everyone is starting to get the grasp of these days--but he got it done, and the Panther Band nailed it as usual.

When it's game time and the lights are on, they always deliver the passion and the fight. Just like the title of our fight song says, Fight Panthers, that's what the Georgia State University community will continue to do, today, tomorrow, and until this is behind us because we are all #GSUnited.
