GSU's grounds crew has some extra help maintaining the fields at Panthersville.

Even though there are no baseball or softball games being played at Panthersville, GSU's grounds crew is still hard at work taking care of the facilities at Panthersville. Director of Grounds and Facilities Scott Sarratt has some extra help when its his turn to visit the fields.

"Cooper is two and a half years old. He's an Australian Shepherd and Lab mix. And he loves helping me at Panthersville," Sarratt said while showing off his best friend on FaceTime.

As soon as Scott pulls into the facilities at P'ville, Cooper waits for the passenger door to be opened before jetting off to enjoy the outdoors.

"He usually goes crazy for a minute before he calms down and comes back over to where I'm working to see what I'm doing."

Whether Scott is mowing the grass, dragging the infield, or just doing general maintenance around the GSU baseball, softball and soccer fields, Cooper is there to help and keep Scott company.

"My staff and I alternate days so that we're being safe and nobody is out here at the same time. Cooper comes out here with me two days a week usually. He loves riding around in the Toro and also loves riding on the drag when I'm working on the infields."

Before the spring seasons were halted, Cooper was a fan favorite among players and coaches. Baseball practice would be starting as Scott and Cooper would be wrapping up and the baseball team would enjoy a few minutes of catch with Panthersville's unofficial mascot.

"The players love seeing him ride around on the Toro with me. I love having him out here to keep me company and he loves being out here and getting to chase geese and run around."

Scott and Cooper will continue to maintain Panthersville throughout the spring and summer.

"It's more cost-effective for us to continually maintain the fields than it is to let them go for weeks or months and then try and get them ready to play again."
