ATLANTA – Coming off a rain-shortened event in Puerto Rico, Georgia State will continue the spring season on Sunday at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner, traveling just across the state-line to Grand National Golf Club for Auburn's annual event. The 54-hole, three-day event will feature 18 of the best teams from throughout the country.
Georgia State returns to the event for a sixth-straight year, earning top five finishes in four of the last five seasons. Senior Josh Edgar led the Panthers last year by tying for third place on the same course that Georgia State made its first NCAA Championship appearance in 2000.
"I'm really excited for this group's opportunity to improve on our only round in Puerto Rico," head coach Chad Wilson said. "We did a lot of good stuff there and now we go to a course we've typically played well at and have a lot of confidence on."
The 18-team field will include host Auburn, Austin Peay, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, James Madison, Kennesaw State, ULM, Louisiana Tech, Mercer, Morehead State, North Alabama, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Toledo, and Western Kentucky.
Georgia State's line-up will include seniors Josh Edgar, Egill Gunnarsson, Ashton Poole, and Severin Soller, along with sophomore David Li.
Poole leads the Panthers with a 71.23 scoring average in 13 rounds this year, including six rounds in the 60's and eight of par or better. Edgar is second on the team with a 73.00 scoring average and five rounds of par or better.
Live scoring of the entire tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.
Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course for the Schenkel Invitational hosted by in-state rival Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Golf Club March 13-15.
