Softball Opens 2020 Season at USF-Rawlings Invitational

GSU will face two Top-25 teams this weekend in Tampa.

ATLANTA -- Georgia State's softball team will begin the 2020 season this weekend in Tampa, Fla., at the USF-Rawlings Invitational hosted by South Florida.

The Panthers will face two Top-25 teams in #7/#9 Florida and #17/#14 Michigan as well as a Fresno State squad that is receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll.

Georgia State's first game of the year will be Friday morning at 9:30 against Fresno State. The Panthers will play #17/#14 Michigan at 11:45 a.m.

On Saturday, GSU has Illinois State at 6:30 p.m. followed by host USF at 8:45 p.m. GSU wraps up the opening weekend Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against #7/#9 Florida.

Head coach Roger Kincaid said his team is looking forward to the first pitch Friday.

"We've been practicing for over a month and we're ready to play against other people than ourselves. The hitters are ready to see different pitchers and the pitchers are ready to see different hitters, " Kincaid said. " We're ready to get going."

Georgia State's roster features 13 returning players along with eight newcomers.
