ATLANTA – The Georgia State men's golf team will open a busy spring season on Sunday playing in the Dorado Beach Collegiate at TPC Dorado Beach in Dorado, Puerto Rico for the first time in program history. The Panthers return to the Caribbean after concluding the fall season in the same manor.
Following a practice round on Saturday morning, the 15-team field will utilize an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday and Monday, before concluding the event with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.
"We are excited to get the spring season underway," head coach Chad Wilson said. "The fall season did not go the way we wanted it to, but our guys put in a lot of hard work during the offseason and we had some great rounds of qualifying leading into our first event of the spring. We are ready to head to Puerto Rico to get things started."
The 15-team field includes host UNC Greensboro, Army, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Georgia State, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Rutgers, VCU, and Virginia Tech.
Georgia State finished the fall season with a 13th place finish at the White Sands Intercollegiate in The Bahamas. Four Panthers enter the spring season with scoring averages of 74.00 or better but will be looking to improve on that as part of a five-event spring season leading up to the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Arkansas in late April.
Ashton Poole, who led the Panthers with a 70.92 scoring average in the fall, will lead a line-up that also includes fellow seniors Josh Edgar, Egill Gunnarsson, and Severin Soller, along with sophomore David Li.
Live scoring of the entire tournament will be available at Golfstat.com. Georgia State will be paired with Kentucky, Michigan State, and Army for the first round on Sunday.
Following this week's event, Georgia State will return to the course March 8-10 at the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn at Grand National Golf Club.
