ATLANTA – Georgia State men's soccer senior
George Proctor and junior
Matthew Fearnley earned Sun Belt Conference weekly honors as announced by the league office on Wednesday morning. It marked the eighth and ninth time this season that a member of the team has been awarded.
Proctor garnered Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after scoring his first goal of the season and helping Georgia State secure a huge 2-0 win over first-place Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
With the Panthers leading 1-0, Proctor ripped a shot from well outside the box in the 30
th minute that found the lower left portion of the net to give Georgia State a two-goal cushion that they would never relinquish.
Proctor also helped on the backline as despite Coastal Carolina being able to take 14 shots, only three were on target and none found the back of the net.
Fearnley earned Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring just 44 seconds into the match against Coastal Carolina, which proved to be the game-winner and on his 21
st birthday.
The junior scored his fifth goal of the season which is currently tied for the NCAA lead with teammate
Aris Briggs. His third game-winning goal of the year also leads the nation going into the regular season finale.
He finished the match playing 55 minutes with his goal being the lone shot that he took on the day.
With the win, the Panthers will have a chance at a share of the Sun Belt Conference regular season title when they host Central Arkansas this Friday at 1 p.m., at the GSU Soccer Complex.
