ATLANTA – Six talented high school seniors signed national letters of intent to play volleyball at Georgia State, head coach Sally Polhamus announced Tuesday afternoon. The class includes Christyn Ashby, Jenna Brown, Olivia Kowalkowski, Claire Lewis, Evoni Lemons, and Lauryn Moultrie.
"We are thrilled to welcome a 2021 class that is packed full of winners. They are players that are driven on the court and in the classroom," said Polhamus. "This is a combination of players that will challenge each other and bring out their best. We are excited to officially welcome each of them into our Panther Family."
Christyn Ashby- OH/RS, 6'0, Atlanta, Ga. (Riverwood International Charter School)
Born and raised in Atlanta, Ashby is a three-year letterwinner at Riverwood International Charter School under head coach Nikkia Bynum Isler. As an outside and right side hitter, Ashby recorded over 500 career kills. She recorded a career high 15 kills and 12 blocks in a single match during her high school campaign. Ashby earned several accolades including being named First Team-All Region twice, 2020 Region Player of the Year Runner-up, and All-State All-Star team. A two-sport varsity athlete, Ashby also participated in high school basketball. Additionally, Ashby played club volleyball at Rio Volleyball Club under head coach Duarrte Spyder.
Jenna Brown- S/RS, 5'9, Algonquin, Ill. (Dundee-Crown High School)
A native of Illinois, Brown is a four-year letterwinner at Dundee-Crown High School under head coach Rich Panitch. Brown was named the Team MVP in 2018 and 2019, in route to earning All-Area Honorable Mention honors. Additionally, Brown earned a spot on the 2019 AVCA Phenom List. With the 2020 season postponed until the Spring, Brown is on pace to break school records in career serving aces and assists. Brown excelled in the classroom where she was in the academic honors program. She was an executive board member of the National Honors Society and a member of the student athletic leadership team. Brown played club volleyball for Sky High Volleyball under head coach Ben Formica.
Olivia Kowalkowski- L/DS, 5'4, Lake Orion, Mich. (Notre Dame Preparatory)
A resident of Lake Orion, Mich., Olivia Kowalkowski is a four-year letter winner at Notre Dame Preparatory under head coach Betty Wroubel. As a libero she helped lead her team to deep runs in the State tournament every season including winning the state title in 2017. Kowalkowski recorded nearly 1800 digs throughout her high school career in route to claiming several All-Area, All-Region, and All-State accolades. During her senior season she earned a spot on the Under Armour All-America Watch List. Additionally, she was named an AVCA/MHSSA Michigan Player of the Week and a Miss Michigan Volleyball nominee. Kowalkowski played club volleyball for Michigan Elite 18 Mizuno under head coach Vince Muscat.
Evoni Lemons- OH/DS, 5'8, Alpharetta, Ga. (Alpharetta High School)
Evoni Lewis, a Georgia native, is a four-year letterwinner at Alpharetta High School under head coach Grace Fossier. A versatile player, Lemons accumulated over 1600 kills and over 1000 digs during her high school career. This season Lemons was named Georgia's Best Player in route to leading her high school to the State Championship title. Additionally, Lemons was named a 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year nominee and a member of the pre-season All-American team. Lemons played club volleyball at A5 under Scott Shelley. With A5 she had the opportunity to play on the international team, which traveled and competed in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
Claire Lewis- L/S, 5'8, Peachtree City, Ga. (McIntosh High School)
A Georgia native, Lewis is a four-year letterwinner at McIntosh High School under head coach Wendy Mabon. A threat in the front and back row, Lewis accumulated over 1000 digs and 1000 assists throughout her high school career. Lewis helped lead her team to four consecutive state championship titles, earning All-Region and All-State honors along the way. In the classroom she was named to the high honor roll each year and was a member of Beta Club. Lewis played club volleyball for A5 under head coach Scott Shelley.
Lauryn Moultrie- MB/OH/RS, 5'11, Fairburn, Ga. (Westlake High School)
Lauryn Moultrie, a resident of Georgia, is a three-year letterwinner at Westlake High School under head coach Loneia Powell. An OH/MB/RS, she led her team's offense, recording nearly 200 kills last season. Throughout her high school career she earned numerous accolades such as All-Region Honorable Mention in 2018, Captain's Award, and the Best Offensive Player Award. In the classroom Moultrie excelled, earning a spot on the President's List. Additionally, Moultrie played club volleyball for A5 South under Jeremy Harrison.
