Senior Spotlight: Lexie Knox

Lexie Knox is a senior from Powder Springs, Ga.

A native of Powder Springs, Lexie Knox's path to Georgia State wasn't a simple one, but Lexie says its one of the best decisions she's ever made.

Lexie verbally committed to Mississippi State her freshman year of high school. After a coaching change however, Lexie decided instead to attend Tennessee.

"Freshman year didn't work out the way I thought it would," Lexie explained. "When I talked to [Coach Ed Joyce] he was very welcoming and understanding of my situation. Georgia State was the place for me. Being back close to home in Georgia was nice. I've loved it ever since."

Lexie says her family was a major factor in her decision to transfer to Georgia State.

Her parents are her biggest supporters. When Lexie began playing for a club team in Birmingham in high school, Lexie's mom would drive her to practice two to three times per week, often not getting back to Powder Springs until 1 a.m.

"My mom ran track and my dad played a lot of sports including wrestling," Lexie said. "They worked hard so I could get to the place I'm at right now. My dad never misses a game. Looking at him during games brings a calming presence and helps me relax."

But it isn't just Lexie's parents that support her soccer talents.

"My little sister Trinity is six years younger than me. She plays soccer too and is a goalkeeper," Lexie said. "Soccer is our bond. We will go to the backyard and play around. I practice shots on her, and she practices saving them."

For Lexie, her GSU career is highlighted by the friendships she's made.

"The people I've met here will effect my life forever and making those memories with them has made my time here special," Lexie said.

Set to graduate in the spring with a major in journalism and minor in communications, Lexie plans to attend graduate school here at GSU and compete next season under NCAA's Covid-19 eligibility policy, which allows for an extra year of eligibility.
