ATLANTA -- Georgia State quarterback Cornelious Brown IV and safety Antavious Lane, both redshirt freshmen, have been named to the FWAA Freshman All-American Watch List, announced Tuesday by the Football Writers Association of America.

Brown, a native of Birmingham, Ala. (Calera HS), leads the Sun Belt and ranks No. 14 in FBS with 307.0 total offense yards per game. The only freshman in the nation averaging more is Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma. Brown has passed for 748 yards (249.3 ypg) and seven touchdowns while rushing for 173 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and three scores.

The GSU signal caller tied the program record by accounting for five touchdowns last game vs. Arkansas State, throwing three TD passes and scoring on runs of 35 and 11 yards.

Lane, from West Palm Beach, Fla. (Dwyer HS), is the Panthers' leading tackler with 22 stops in three games, including two tackles for loss. He was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 5 after his 34-yard interception return for touchdown was a key play in the Panthers' 49-29 win over East Carolina. Lane also had five tackles and two pass breakups to help GSU hold ECU to 50 yards rushing and 286 total yards.

This year's FWAA Freshman All-American team will represent the 20th since its inception and feature a list of 7 semifinalists and 3 finalists later this season leading up to the unveil of the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year.

Last season, offensive tackle Travis Glover was named to the FWAA Freshman All-American Team, while wide receiver Penny Hart was honored in 2015.

Georgia State plays at Troy Saturday with kickoff at 4 p.m. ET at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The game will be nationally-televised on ESPNU.
