Women's Tennis Picks Up First Win of the Year

The GSU Panthers defeated McNeese State 6-1 during a neutral site game in Texas

*The Panthers defeated McNeese State 6-1 Sunday morning thanks to singles wins from  Eva ChivuDamira Muminovic, Andreea Stanescu, and Aleksandra Stromova
*The win evened Georgia State's record to 1-1 on the season.
*GSU will take on the Auburn Tigers on Feb. 1.

Waco, Texas.- The Georgia State women's tennis team took home their first victory of the year 6-1 over McNeese State in Waco, Texas. Aleksandra Stromova notched her first collegiate singles victory (6-3, 6-2) in the effort.

The Panthers got out to a quick start as Chivu and freshman, Angel Carnery, took their doubles match 6-4 on court one. With the Cowgirls forgoing a line in doubles play, the duo solidified the 1-0 lead for the Panthers going into singles action.

Chivu would dominate on court one 6-0, 6-0. Muminovic would win a tight first set 7-5, and she would pull away to take the second 6-1. Stanescu would clinch the match for the Panthers with a 6-1, 6-3 win on court five.

Georgia State will have next weekend off before matching up with Auburn on the road on February 1. The Panthers and Tigers will compete at 12:00 p.m. CT.
