TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Georgia State was defeated 5-1 at No. 5 Alabama Wednesday night at Rhoads Stadium in Tuscaloosa.
Kristin Hawkins and Remington Hasty accounted for GSU's two hits in the contest as Hawkins continued her hot streak at the plate.
The Crimson Tide started things off with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. Alabama then added a run in the bottom of the second to lead 4-0 after two innings.
Mandy Chance came on to pitch for GSU and settled in nicely, allowing one earned over 3.0 innings.
Georgia State got on the board in the top of the fourth thanks to some help from the Alabama defense. The Panthers scored an unearned run off no hits, one walk and two errors, to make it a 4-1 game.
The Crimson Tide pushed its lead back to four with an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Panthers worked a one-out walk in the top of the seventh but stranded the runner on second.
Next up for Georgia State is a three-game home series against South Alabama at Bob Heck Field.
