ATLANTA - Alyssa Brumelow launched her first career home run in the bottom of the sixth to help Georgia State defeat UTA 7-6 Saturday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
Brumelow's solo shot broke a 5-5 tie and the Panthers added an insurance run to go up 7-5. UTA got a run back in the top of the seventh but Emily Soles got a strikeout looking to end the game with the tying run in third and the go-ahead run on second.
Mallory Parson picked up her first win of the season in the circle and Soles earned her first save of the year.
UTA jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Remington Hasty erased it with a three-run homer to left field, her third of the year.
After the Mavericks went up 5-3, the Panthers rallied again in the bottom of the fifth. Kristin Hawkins doubled to lead off the inning and Reagan Morgan brought her home with a single up the middle. Morgan then came home on a double by Skylar Mosel to even the score at 5-5, setting up Brumelow's go-ahead homer in the sixth.
Brumelow and Mosel each finished the day with a pair of hits. Hawkins was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. The Panthers totaled 11 hits as a team.
Georgia State and UTA will play Game 3 series Sunday at 1 p.m.
