ORLANDO-Fla.- The Georgia State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 40 Denver in a non-conference neutral site match in Orlando Friday afternoon.

Andreea Stanescu and Daniela Ramirez were squared 4-4 with the number one pair from Denver when the Pioneers clinched with a 6-4 win on court two.. The Panthers forfeited court three singles due to injury, giving Denver the 1-0 lead in the match.

GSU fell behind 2-0 as the Panthers did not have an available option to play in the number six singles flight, but would fight back due to stellar play from a pair of seniors. Ramirez would narrow the gap to 2-1 with a 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 win on court two. Lara Vovk rallied for a 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 win on court four, but it would not be enough as Denver prevailed on singles courts one, three, and five.

With the loss the Panthers are now 2-7 on the season. GSU will return to Atlanta next weekend for a doubleheader at the GSU Clarkston Campus Sunday morning. The Panthers will take on Georgia Southern before facing off against UT Martin.
