MONTGOMERY, AL – Georgia State Women's Tennis closed out their Alabama road trip with a dramatic win over Alabama State to close out a 2-0 weekend. Freshman
Zeynep Erbakan secured the final point for the Panthers, outdueling her singles opponent in a tiebreaker to capture the match-winning point.
The doubles duo of
Maria Paredes and
Zeynep Erbakan gave the Panthers an early advantage with a win on court one, but it was the Hornets storming back with a pair of victories on courts two and three to capture the opening point.
Paredes stayed hot on the day, winning her singles matchup in straight sets on court one. On court two,
Sara Radojevic saw a very rare slip-up in set one – losing by a score of 6-0 – but bounced back in sets two and three to take the matchup.
Mia Petrovic had a similar comeback effort, getting blanked in her opening set before winning sets two and three by identical scores of 6-1.
Alabama State took the victory on court four and earned a point on court five when Georgia State's
Lamiss Haouas was forced to withdraw. With one court still in play, the match was tied 3-3.
After trading 6-3 set victories with her opponent on court three,
Zeynep Erbakan was caught up in a third set battle. The two played to 6-6 in the deciding set, necessitating a tiebreaker to decide the game and the match. Erbakan delivered with the pressure on, winning the tiebreaker 9-7 to send the Panthers home with a weekend sweep.
