ATLANTA -- Georgia State offensive coordinator
Brad Glenn, who has directed the Panthers' record-setting offense in his first season on the GSU staff, is among the 41 nominees for the Broyles Award as the nation's top assistant coach, announced today by the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation.
The Broyles Award is presented by Riceland Foods.Â
Under Glenn's direction, Georgia State (6-3, 3-2 Sun Belt) ranks No. 14 in the nation in total offense, averaging 485.0 yards per game, and No. 23 in FBS in scoring at 36 points per game.
Much of that production comes from the Panthers' potent ground game, which is No. 6 in FBS, averaging 274.7 yards game. Georgia State has broken the school record for rushing yards in a game four times in the last five contests, including a record 414 yards last Saturday at ULM.
Another impressive offensive statistic is the Panthers' third-down conversion rate of 51.8 percent, which is No. 5 in the nation.
Glenn coaches quarterback
Dan Ellington, who has passed for 1,813 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing for 603 yards and five scores. Senior running back
Tra Barnett ranks sixth in FBS in rushing at 124.2 yards per game.
Glenn joined the GSU staff this season after seven seasons as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Western Carolina. He previously served seven years (2005-11) at Appalachian State, this week's opponent for the Panthers, who host the Mountaineers Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Georgia State Stadium.
