Williams Named All-Sun Belt Preseason Second Team

Panthers Picked Sixth in Preseason Poll

ATLANTA—Georgia State junior Kane Williams was selected to the All-Sun Belt Preseason Second Team on Friday as voted on by the coaches while the Panthers were picked sixth in the annual preseason poll.
 
Williams earned Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament honors last season while helping Georgia State to a second-straight league tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. Williams is one of just nine active juniors in the country to have won conference tournament in each of their first two years and appeared in NCAA Tournament games.
 
Last season Williams started 28 of 33 games played while averaging 11.1 points and 3.5 assists per game shooting 51.1 percent from the floor. The junior also shot 40.0 percent from 3-point range and 70.3 percent from the free throw line.
 
From his freshman to sophomore seasons Williams tripled minutes per game production averaging 31.6 per contest which ranked No. 18 in the Sun Belt. His 3.5 assists per game ranked No. 10 in the Sun Belt and No. 236 in the NCAA.
 
Georgia State is coming off a third NCAA Tournament appearance in five seasons and welcomes new head coach Rob Lanier to the helm. The Panthers have finished in the top two in the conference standings five times in the last six years since returning to the league, going 24-10 last season including a 13-5 conference record to earn the regular season title.
